Set New Goals And Invest In Them

Set New Goals And Invest In Them

A new year gives us a great opportunity to set new goals, or find new ways to reach old goals.

If becoming a private security professional is one of your goals, there are three things I’d like you to be: sure, prepared, and willing.

First, be sure private security work is what you want to do. Check out our quick quiz to find out if you’re ready for this essential work. Some people want their entire career to be in private security. Some people choose private security to prepare for service as a member of law enforcement or the military. Other people choose private security after working in careers ranging from law enforcement to the arts. Still other people choose private security because they can earn money working flexible hours while they move toward their dream. No matter why you’re interested in private security, make sure you take the work seriously.

Second, be prepared to invest in yourself. Depending upon where you live, the jurisdictions you want to work in, and the type of work you want to do, you will have to pay for some level of training and/or certification. You may also have to pay to renew your certification, and for training that will put you in the position to earn more money and better assignments. I suggest putting a little money aside every pay period for this. Besides, regularly saving some of your money is a great practice for everyone.

Third, be willing to end some things. If you want to succeed at anything, you have to be willing to end behaviors that get in your way. That may mean ending TV binge-watching, video/online gaming, and bad relationships. You’ll need time to study, workout, and rest. I’m not saying that you cannot have enjoyable free time. I’m saying that you must use your time wisely. Everything is sweeter when you’ve worked hard to get it.

In my book Rent-A-Cop Reboot you’ll find more to think about, and I share several stories from my almost three decades as a security professional. I also talk about my experiences on the Leumas Publishing YouTube Channel. We invite you to check it out and subscribe.

I encourage you to dream big as you set your goals for the year, and the rest for your life. Be bold with your vision, and your dedication to making it a reality.
